The Art of Resting
August 17, 2023

As our lives get busier than ever and various pressures mount on us, we forget the importance of stepping back and resting for a while. But, whenever one feels overwhelmed, the first instinct should be not to do anything but just rest.
Prioritizing rest is important both for your body and mind and is an essential component for a happy and contented life. Rest helps you recharge and refresh so that you can make the most of your life. It helps restore your energy, sharpen your insight and bring balance into your life.
This doesn’t mean you’ve got to stop chasing your goals or being highly ambitious. Rather you need to view rest as a fundamental part of a successful and good life. Here are some ways to get rest when you need it the most.
Get enough sleep
Sleep is essential for physical and mental recovery so make sure you get atleast 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Stick to a regular bedtime routine to maintain healthy sleep habits and wake up feeling fresher.
Allow ‘me time’
Work responsibilities, familial obligations or other commitments can encroach into your personal time and cause you stress and pressure. Dedicate half an hour daily purely to yourself – no phones or other devices allowed. This is your time to introspect, relax and unwind without feeling guilty about it.
Take breaks
Even when you’re caught up in busy schedules, it’s important to take mini breaks throughout the day. This 5–10-minutes time-out will help you de-stress and refuel your energy. Go on a brisk walk, stretch out or sip a cup of tea to relax and rejuvenate your mind.
Exercise daily
Moving and stretching your body daily elevates your mood and leaves you feeling energized. Taking a walking in nature, doing yoga, aerobics or dancing has proven to reduce cortisol, the body’s stress hormones.
If you haven’t prioritized rest in your routine, start incorporating it into your schedule. These moments of relaxation will energize you and help you live life to the fullest.
